It's a beautiful day/evening in the neighborhood

Web shot of the Great Lake Superior. Time to head home. I think I hear that whistle blowing. Hope you all had a great first day of spring.

Cheers

Something from the kitchen

So in an effort ot make a dirty apartment kitchen more livable ... I've been transforming the space month by month [I'm slow when it comes to updating. I just hate painting but love the outcome]. I have three more pieces of art on this wall not shown from Creative Thursday artist Marisa Haedike, hanging around the thrift store shelf I found. Most recently I sewed a sink curtain to hide the trash can beneath it with this great white eye-let fabric my sister gave me. Perfect final touch to this wall. It's been fun to see this space change because it is soooo different from our overstuffed... traditional colored living spaces.

Art in Kitchen includes:
This set from bella & boo - ART
These three from Creative Thursday - Pandas, Oliver, I am thinking of you
These two prints from Berkley Illustration - Billy Goat, Deer
I love these shops and many more [check out my Etsy faves to the left].
Berkley Illustration sent a card with my prints thanking me and telling me I was cooler than 10,000 Fonzies. I always kind of thought I was but it was nice to have it in writing.

Back to kitchen stuffs....
Anyhow, I was pouring through Martha Stewart's website [since Blueprint *is gone ... sniff] getting inspired and jones'in to go home and fix up my home, when I came across the picture below [the yellow kitchen]. I thought HEY ... I must be on the right track.

my kitchen not my kitchen ... =]

* I do check out the Bluelines blog as much as possible
Now I have these two gems that I Etsy'ed and I need to find a place for them ... hhhhhmmmm

I heart decor8

I have been a fan of decor8.blogspot.com for quite some time now, but today they featured a lovely friend of mine named Jennifer Davis, so this has cemented my love affair eternally. I had been meaning to do a post about my friends who art for some time ... Holly beat me to it. Kudos.
Great job Jenny D.

For today ... a nearly local shop. Just 150 some miles from me. Hi!

I've seen cheese and cake tray like this used in many modern and unique ways. Some hold rocks from the shores of Lake Superior.. or possibly candles when not in use. I think I've seen one with action figures in it. I'll have to google and see if I can find that image again. V.Cool!

I know I've posted about my new awesome couch before ... "Hi awesome couch, I will take many awesome naps on you!" ... but I finally got the call that is in. It's coming this Friday. I can't wait the butterflies are bouncing around wondering what it will look like [we chose the light brown color not shown here based on a teeny tine fabric sample] and what I should buy to go with it. Pillows, blankets ... the choices are endless.

Now we have to tackle a new design problem. We have a small small apartment filled with large hand-me-down furniture in a dark stained wood. Oh and the drawer pulles are these super uncool 70's style dark beat up bronze. The furniture itself is in great condition but I'm afraid the hand-me-downer [my mom] will have a fit if I suggest painting them. She always suggests that the hand-me-down items come with a hitch. They can take them back when ever they want to. Although I know they would never ever take them back since they are so out of style and they have no room. They just don't want me selling them, giving them away or leaving them on the street. Sshheeesh mom, I won't. But painting them .... boy I'd like to!
Does anyone else know of any great ways to hide or down play ugly outdated furniture in a small teeny tiny apartment?
